Summary:
This presentation will shed light on the importance and difficulties that lie within medical social work. There are many roles and options within the field/specialty. Some roles are very specific and straightforward, while others are much more involved. Hospital based social work will be a highlighted area, as hospital social workers wear many hats from case management, substance use work, SPMI work, crisis work and more! Lindsey will discuss different modalities and strategies that are used within the hospital, as well. This presentation will also highlight gaps and areas for advocacy and change.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Define and become knowledgeable about Medical Social Work as a specialty/field.
  2. Understand the various roles related to hospital based social work and the modalities/techniques used in each role.
  3. Identify gaps in service/dilemmas and areas for advocacy/change

About Lindsey:
My name is Lindsey Nepple, LCSW. I am originally from small town Iowa. I graduted from CSU with a Bachelor's in Psychology in 2013. I am a DU GSSW alum and graduated in 2018, concentrating in Mental Health. I have a great deal of experience working with adults with developmental, intellectual and acquired disability. Over the last 5 years I was working with Rocky Mountain Stroke Center, serving adults and families that had suffered stroke(s). I am currently working at UCHealth Highlands Ranch hospital in the care management department. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter and our dog.
