Summary: Presentation by Jacki Saunders, LMFT
In this presentation, we will explore how and why the grief of suicide is different than other grief. We will also address what can be most helpful clinically when working with this population, versus what language and clinical presentations may actually be harmful. Through many years of this type of grief work, Jacki has also noticed some of the nuances that are often present for these clients, which often may not be seen with other client work. These nuances can help to understand how to differentiate working with a suicidal client and someone who has experienced the suicide of a loved one. Finally, learn what resources are available, both for the client and for the therapist. There will be time for questions after the presentation.
Learning Objectives:
- Understanding how this grief can be different than other grief
- Language and special considerations to use
- Interventions that can be helpful
- Differentiating between working with a suicidal client and someone who has experienced the suicide of a loved one
